Here is an English translation of the Papal message, transmitted by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarciso Bertone, and sent to those participating in the conference in Milan on John Henry Newman oggi: logos e dialogo which concluded yesterday:

From the Vatican, 26 March 2009

On the occasion of the Symposium ‘John Henry Newman today: logos and dialogue’, organised by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan, together with the International Centre of Newman Friends, the Supreme Pontiff sends his warmest greetings, expressing his lively appreciation for this timely initiative, intended to revisit the figure and thought of an illustrious man of the Church and important Catholic thinker. He hopes that the Symposium will give a renewed impetus for a faith which both engages with reason and is lived with integrity, in order to promote a dialogue ever more open and fruitful between people of all backgrounds, and a new willingness to transmit and welcome the Truth.

With such wishes His Holiness assures the organisers, those giving papers, and all the participants of his prayers, and willingly imparts his Apostolic Blessing.

Cardinal Tarciso Bertone
Secretary of State
